WWF Is Coming to Niagara

News that Vince McMann was planning to bring the new headquarters and prime arena of the World Wrestling Federation has yet to reach Niagara wags but this reporter has gleaned a few of the plans.

WWF has been looking for a new venue and based on demographics and other factors, has determined that Niagara-on-the-Lake is the best place to bring the WWF.

"We looked at a number of factors, and Niagara has the space, nearness to the border, a Canadian dollar advantage, and a history of theatre, conflict, and development.  This means we will not only draw from a population of 6 million people within 100 miles but the television will bring further WWF'ers to Niagara in ever greater numbers", said McMahon who added, "We need to erect a 30,000 seat arena for our main events, and we are close to a deal with Canada Parks for the area known as 'The Commons'.   There is enough space for the arena, car and bus parking, and it is within walking distance of town and we can erect the arena without cutting even one tree. It is the perfect spot".  The WWF museum site has not  been fixed yet, but there are several great possibilities we are looking into, including Butlers Barracks, the old C&C site and the rifle range.

The fact that theatre is well established is a plus, but the real value in Niagara is the fact that there is a local tradition of conflict extends from the War of 1812 the battle over bussing, amalgamation and clear cut logging on Ricardo Street.   We have some of the best fans in the world but we can hire security guards locally who we can count on to be principled and tenacious.

Local activists applauded the idea, suggesting that the concession stands that would accompany the arena would reduce pressure on the shops in 'ice cream alley'.    Unidentified and misquoted city officials were pleased with the prospect as the tax base would be increasing by several million dollars.  When asked if this meant local taxes would be decreasing, the official said 'No'.

Watch for it! WWF coming this fall!
